Therapy for Chronic Pain
in Monrovia, Arcadia, Sierra Madre and Pasadena
The pain you experience often doesn’t show externally and this can make it difficult for others to understand what you are experiencing.
Dealing with chronic pain can also come with a complicated set of psychological, or emotional, responses. Multiple doctors appointments and years of testing may or may not lead to a diagnosis and treatment. This experience can be highly stressful and isolating. Decisions around medication, other treatments, and working with your doctor (or team of doctors) may become a point of focus.
Then there is grief, lots of grief, along with questions and confusion:
What could have caused this?
How did so many experts miss what was going on with me?
Do I want to tell my family, my friends, my co-workers?
Can I lead a “normal” life?
Why me??
As someone who has Lupus, I have personal experience with chronic pain and understand the challenges that come with it. I’m an EMDR certified therapist and I am passionate about helping women navigate the difficult and very personal decisions around a journey with chronic pain.
Psychotherapy for Pain Management
More recent research in the medical and psychology field suggests that long-term stress impacts the interaction between the nervous system and the immune system. Treating these stressors, particularly trauma-related experiences, may help relieve chronic pain symptoms.
In therapy, you’ll be able to discuss how your physical symptoms impact your emotional well-being (and vice versa). Together, we’ll explore past trauma and current stressors that are causing a negative influence. You’ll have the opportunity to express your frustration, anger, and resentment. You’ll have the opportunity to find healing and relief.
